KKBS joins hands with the Thai Spa and Wellness Association to upgrade service education and promote Khon Kaen as a city of health tourism.

On March 8, 2025 Asia Pacific Tourism Center under the supervision of the Faculty of Business Administration and Accountancy, Khon Kaen University Organized the project “Workshop on Service Improvement to Prepare Khon Kaen as a Future Health Tourism City” and the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Thai Spa and Wellness Association to develop student potential and improve the Thai spa, wellness, and health tourism service industry to the international stage, which was held at the Chattantha Room, Pullman Khon Kaen Raja Orchid Hotel.

The signing ceremony of the academic cooperation memorandum was honored byMr. Yuthaphon Pirunsan The Deputy Governor of Khon Kaen Province gave a speech supporting the project and hadAssistant Professor Dr. Methawin Phonloyothi The Director of the Asia Pacific Tourism Center gave a report on the project objectives and was honored by executives from both sides, including: Assistant Professor Dr. Phongsutthi Phuensaen Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration and Accountancy, Khon Kaen University and Ms. Chawanat Sinthueakheaw The President of the Thai Spa and Wellness Association signed the memorandum of understanding, along with executives, lecturers, and personnel from both organizations. After the signing ceremony, there was a special lecture on the topic of “Opportunities for Khon Kaen Province to Become a Future Health Tourism City” and an academic seminar on the topic of “Upgrading Services to Prepare Khon Kaen for a Future Health Tourism City”. Then, there was a workshop to propose guidelines for providing services and prototype routes for health tourism in Khon Kaen Province to accommodate Thai and foreign tourists by qualified speakers.

Mr. Yuthaphon Pirunsan The Deputy Governor of Khon Kaen Province said that Khon Kaen Province has great potential to be the center of health tourism in the country with complete resources, including a modern public health system, leading hospitals and medical facilities, cultural tourism attractions, and infrastructure that can effectively support tourists. This collaboration between government agencies, private sectors and educational institutions will help improve service standards, develop personnel with expertise and create a strong support system. These will help Khon Kaen become a health tourism city that is recognized nationally and internationally.

Health tourism is one of the rapidly growing trends. This workshop and signing of the cooperation agreement are therefore important opportunities to exchange knowledge and guidelines for developing academic potential, along with creating service standards that can effectively support health tourists from around the world.

in addition Assistant Professor Dr. Methawin Phonloyothi The Director of the Asia Pacific Tourism Center, Faculty of Business Administration and Accountancy, revealed that the Asia Pacific Tourism Center has a guideline for providing academic services in hospitality, tourism and MICE, focusing on developing tourism at the ASEAN and international levels, creating quality, modern training courses and providing consulting with potential to be a source of continuous sustainable tourism learning.

“This training is part of the center’s operations in collaboration with the PhD students in Business Administration, the specialized group in Tourism and MICE Innovation Management, under the supervision of a team of expert lecturers. The objectives are to raise awareness of the importance of preparing Khon Kaen Province as a health tourism city, as well as to transfer knowledge on services to government and private organizations, as well as educational institutions, and to develop a way to link this knowledge to future research,” the center’s director said about the importance of organizing this project.
