Quality Assurance Development “Towards Excellence Development” of Khon Kaen University

Khon Kaen University has developed in the field of educational quality assurance for a long time and continuously until it is accepted that “Khon Kaen University is a leader in developing a strong educational quality assurance system.” With continuous operations in accordance with the guidelines of the Office of the Higher Education Commission, development “Quality Assurance for Excellent Development” It began in the academic year 1996, which was a preparation for the relevant practices and began to assess the quality of internal education. “The first time in the academic year 1997” and inspected the quality of education for the 2nd time in the academic year 2001 and the academic year 2003, which was carried out every 2 years (2 Year Cycle), in the form of checking items or “Check list” Whether the operation is complete according to the criteria or not

Academic year 2003  The University has started developing indicators and criteria for internal quality assessment of the University to be consistent with the context of the University and the Faculty, consisting of 7 components and 47 indicators, and announced them for use in the academic year 2004 until the academic year 2006.

Academic year 2006 The university has started to develop a quality assurance system integrated with the Public Sector Management Quality Aword (PMQA). This is the first year that the university has prepared a certification of performance between the President of Khon Kaen University and the Secretary-General of the Office of the Higher Education Commission in order to develop and upgrade the Thai civil service system by the Office of the Civil Service Commission (OCSC) (Khon Kaen University Quality Assurance Manual, Academic Year 2006). The indicators are set to be consistent with Section 7, Results of Operations according to the PMQA criteria, consisting of 67 faculty-level indicators, 26 support unit-level indicators, and the operation has continued until the academic year 2009.

Academic year 2010 The Office of the Higher Education Commission has announced the criteria for educational quality for excellent performance (2009-2010 edition) with the aim of raising the quality of Thai higher education to be on par with and internationally recognized as a framework for the management of higher education institutions for quality. Universities have begun to learn and apply these criteria by analyzing organizational structures and monitoring operational results.

Academic year 2015  The University Council has a policy to use the Education Criteria for Performance Excellence (EdPEx) at the institutional and faculty levels (the curriculum level specifies the curriculum standard criteria or other criteria that are comparable internationally). Therefore, it is the beginning of serious educational quality development by creating a strategic plan for quality development towards excellence, consisting of (1) creating knowledge and understanding for administrators at all levels (2) self-assessment using the EdPEx criteria (3) creating a quality development plan (4) writing a self-assessment report (5) internal quality assessment using the EdPEx criteria (6) exchanging knowledge.

Academic year 2016  Khon Kaen University has promoted and supported faculties to participate in the EdPEx 200 project of the Office of the Higher Education Commission, batches 1 to 10, resulting in 13 faculties being considered to participate in the project.

Academic year 2018  Khon Kaen University received an award Thailand Quality Class (TQC) “It is the first university in the country to receive this award at the university level.” After that, there was promotion and support for the group that passed. EdPEx 200 also applied for the award, making the Faculty of Medicine receive the award in 2021. TQC  and the Faculty of Dentistry received an award TQC Plus side People  And this resulted in Assoc. Prof. Dr. Waranuch Pitiphat, who was the dean at that time, receiving the award. Leadership Excellence Award  2023 from the selection of the National Quality Award Committee under the National Productivity Institute, awarded to the highest executive of the organization who drives the organization to continuously use the National Quality Award criteria, resulting in excellent performance, until receiving the award. Thailand Quality Class Plus  And followed by the Faculty of Engineering, Khon Kaen University, received the award. TQC In 2024 “This is a success for Khon Kaen University in pushing for continuous development of educational quality.”

In the first year of the ranking, Khon Kaen University ranked 1st in the country in 2019 and 2020, and ranked 1st in the country in SDG1: No Poverty (2022), SDG2: Zero Hunger (2022 and 2023), SDG4: Quality Education (2020 and 2023), and SDG8: Decent work and Economic Growth (2020).

    In 2010 Khon Kaen University was rated as one of the 9 National Research Universities of Thailand.
  • KKU research is ranked 1st in Asia and 5th in the world. Research on liver fluke infection and the mechanism of carcinogenesis has been published in international academic journals, ranking 1st in Asia for the production of parasitological research on liver flukes, according to the ranking of publications in international academic journals by Elsevier in 2010. It has also risen to 5th in the world as an organization with a high publication volume on cholangiocarcinoma in 2000-2010, according to the ranking by the ISI Web of Science database.
    KKU research study is rated first in Asia and the 5th in the world for its research work on Liver Fluke infection and mechanisms and its cancer development which has been published in international journal as the largest circulation in Asia rated by Elsevier in 2010. It has also produced more research work on the Parasitology on Liver Fluke making KKU one of the top five universities in the world that has published work on Cholangiocarcinoma Research for the largest circulation during the year 2000 – 2010, as ranked by the data base of ISI Web of Science.
