Prof. Thaweesak Niyombandit, Dean of the Faculty of Natural Resources, Prince of Songkla University, Hat Yai District, chaired the 3rd Halal Chicken Processing for Export Meeting to discuss guidelines for driving the area and promoting the Halal industry in Pattani Province to become a Halal food center. Mr. Chonthan Saengphum, Deputy Secretary-General of SBPAC, executives of Khon Kaen University (KKU), the head of the Agricultural Council Office of Yala Province, etc. attended the meeting to discuss driving the promotion of the KKU-1 chicken breed in 2021. Mr. Chonthan revealed that SBPAC is a subcommittee for developing an economic corridor to promote trade and agricultural products with Halal standards in the southern border provinces. It will promote and create a production base and push Halal chicken as a priority. Discussions were held with the private sector and academics to encourage locals to raise KKU-1 chickens for sale and export, stimulating the economy and generating income for grassroots households, with a target of 5,000 baht per household per month. This is a government policy that encourages the public sector to create stable careers and income. As for promoting the processing of halal chickens for export, currently, the processing of halal products for export requires sending products to Malaysia to be stamped with a halal seal and exported. The government sees that Pattani Province and the southern border areas are halal areas with identity and culture, with a population of over 80% Muslims. It is expected that a halal brand can be created from Pattani. Therefore, the meeting agreed to promote halal chickens as the first product, by promoting the raising of chickens.
