Khon Kaen, Thailand – Khon Kaen University (KKU) participated in a wreath-laying ceremony on October 23, 2025, to commemorate the passing of His Majesty King Chulalongkorn (Rama V), an observance known as “Piyamaharaj Day.”

The KKU delegation was led by Mrs. Natsamol Tanakulrungsarit, Vice President for Legal and Communications, accompanied by the Director of the Corporate Communications Division and other university personnel. They joined the royal tribute ceremony held at the statue of King Rama V in front of the Khon Kaen Provincial Hall.

The event was presided over by Mr. Charin Thongsuk, the Governor of Khon Kaen Province.

During the ceremony, the Governor delivered a royal address praising the achievements and virtues of King Chulalongkorn. The tribute specifically highlighted the King’s numerous contributions to the nation and the welfare of the Thai people, particularly the abolition of slavery, the reform of the bureaucratic system, and various aspects of national development.

Heads of government agencies, civil servants, military and police officials, as well as representatives from the public and private sectors, attended the ceremony in full force. Their participation reflected deep loyalty and profound gratitude for King Chulalongkorn’s enduring dedication to the prosperity and stability of Thailand.

Observed annually on October 23, Piyamaharaj Day serves as a national day of remembrance for King Chulalongkorn, who is deeply revered by the Thai people. The title “Somdet Phra Piya Maharat” translates to “the Beloved Great Monarch,” symbolising his legacy as a king greatly loved and respected by his subjects.
